Discontinued Pens - 3Doodler

Push the Nozzle firmly down against the paper, then begin extruding the Filament. This will allow the Filament to stick to the surface.
Drag the pen and filament across the surface in a continuous unbroken line as if you were writing with a pencil.
Keep your movements slow and steady. The Filament should hold to the paper and not curl up around the Nozzle.

My 3Doodler Pro+ isn’t extruding.

Make sure your pen is on the right setting for the Filament you are using.
Make sure the strand is engaged with the Drive Gear. Gently push the Strand into the Feed Port until you feel it being pulled by the
Drive Gear on its own.If the above does not work, reverse the strand fully from the pen, snip the melted end, then reinsert and try again.In situations where the strand is too short, remove the Maintenance Cover and with the pen turned on and in reverse, try to tease the strand out with your fingers.If it is too short, put the maintenance cover back on. With the pen turned on and heated fully, unscrew the nozzle, then engage the reverse feature. Then insert the Unblocking Tool into the front of the pen to push the short strand out of the feed port.

My Filament is Leaking from around the Nozzle.

This may be caused by a loose nozzle. In this case make sure the pen is hot, and then tighten the nozzle using the tool provided. Do not over tighten it.

My Filament won’t stop extruding.

Click the feed button once.
If that doesn’t work, turn off and unplug your pen.
Wait a few seconds and then plug it back in and turn it on again.

How do I reverse my unused filament?

With the pen on and fully heated, click the Reverse Button.
If the strand is too short, remove the Maintenance Cover and tease it out with your fingers, the pen should be on and in reverse as you do this.
Alternatively, you can insert a new strand of the same filament and feed it through. This will push the small amount of the previous strand in the pen out through the nozzle.

My pen won’t heat up! The light stays red!

Make sure you have selected a filament type on the Menu Display. It takes about 60-90 seconds for the pen to heat up depending on the filament selected. If, after that time, the pen still does not heat up, and the Indicator Light remains Red, turn the pen OFF and then ON, and try again. If that still does not correct the issue, please contact us at help@the3doodler.com.

Why is the light on my 3Doodler blinking/flashing red?

Why is the light on my 3Doodler always red?

After several minutes of being switched ON without engaging the motor, your pen will go into “standby mode.” The heat will cut off, and the LED will stay red until the device is made active again.

Reactivate the device active by single-clicking the FAST button or by turning the pen OFF and then on again. If your LED is still remaining red after this please contact our Customer Service Team.

My 3Doodler sometimes makes a slight crackling sound while extruding. Is this normal?

If the filament makes a slight crackling sound while extruding, this is totally normal. It is caused by a small amount of moisture (that was been caught in the strand during manufacturing) escaping from the filament strands. This is not dangerous or a cause for concern!

The filament is moving slowly. What do I do?

Sometimes, when you get to the end of one strand, extrusion slows noticeably. Put a new strand into the back of the 3Doodler pen. If it still extrudes very slowly (or not at all), try giving the new one a little nudge down, and that should do the trick!

Why is my 3Doodler Create+ having difficulty feeding/gripping a new strand?

The Create+ pen has two temperature settings that are meant for specific types of filament. Typically, we see jams occur when folks aren’t using the corresponding temperature setting for the filament type they select.

3Doodler PLA and WOOD filament should be used on the PLA temperature setting ONLY.

3Doodler ABS and FLEXY should be used on the ABS/FLX temperature setting ONLY.

If you’re using the correct filament/temperature setting combo, but your pen still won’t feed, try using your Unblocking Tool to ensure you don’t have a jam (instructional video here).

Why are my pen’s buttons not functioning as expected?

The tip of my pen broke off! How do I re-attach the nozzle?

The Create+ instructions state that you should carefully change the pen tip when the pen is plugged in, turned ON, and fully heated up. Doing this can prevent the pen tip from breaking in the future.

Unfortunately we don’t have a way to repair pens with broken pen tips, so we’ll need to look into activating your Warranty. Please contact our customer service team.

Getting Started

Not sure where to begin with your PRO+ pen? You’ve come to the right place. Let’s start with the basics. For visual learners, check out our video section.

Basics

Set the Temperature

Plug in your 3Doodler PRO+ and turn it on.
Use the Navigation Buttons to scroll through the preset temperature modes on the display.
Press the Enter Button to select your desired material.
Available preset modes:
- OOD – Wood
- BRO – Bronze
- COP – Copper
- PLA – PLA
- NYL – Nylon
- FLE – Flexy
- CUS – Custom mode for setting temperature and speed
- SEL – Select temperature display (switch between °F and °C)

Set the Speed

Choose your extrusion speed (1–10) using the Navigation Buttons.
Press the Enter Button to confirm your selection.

Wait for the Indicator Light

The Indicator Light will turn:
- Blue for preset temperature modes
- Green for custom mode

Insert the Filament

Once the Indicator Light is Blue or Green, insert a filament strand through the Feed Port.
Click the Feed Button once; the Drive Gear will pull the filament through automatically.

Start Doodling

After 10–15 seconds, filament will begin extruding from the nozzle.
Press the Feed Button to stop extrusion when needed.

The Pen

Buttons

Up/Down: Adjust temperature and speed.
Enter/Select: Confirm your selection.
Feed/Reverse: Feed the filament forward or reverse it to change strands.

Indicator Lights

Red: Heating up or waiting for a selection.
Blue: Feeding in preset temperature mode.
Green: Feeding in custom mode.
Flashing Blue/Green: Reversing filament in preset/custom mode.

Operation

Feeding Strands

Push the filament gently into the pen until the Drive Gear grips it.
If the strand is too short, remove the cover and feed it from inside.

Pressing On Surface

Press the nozzle firmly onto your surface for a few seconds to anchor the filament, then lift the pen.

Welding Filament

Touch the 3Doodler tip to two pieces of filament while extruding to connect them.

Finishing and Tips

Reverse and Remove Filament

Ensure the pen is turned on and heated.
Press the Reverse Button; the Light will flash as the filament retracts.
Once retracted, gently pull the filament out.

Snip Those Ends

Trim melted ends of filament before reinserting to prevent clogs.

Troubleshooting

Jammed Filament

Set the temperature to match the filament being used.
Remove the nozzle using the included socket (pen must be heated).
Use the reverse feature and the unblocking tool to clear any jams.

Accessories

Swapping Nozzles

Ensure the pen is turned on and heated before removing or attaching nozzles with the nozzle tool.
Do not over-tighten; keep the nozzle tool centered to avoid damage.

Using the Smoothing Tool

Slide the tool onto the nozzle while the pen is unplugged and cool.
Turn on the pen, use the appropriate temperature, and smooth your doodles.
Turn off and allow to cool before removing the tool.

Using the Mini DoodlePad

Use the transparent, grid-lined DoodlePad for precise creations.
For WOOD, Bronze, Copper, or FLEXY, use the backside; ABS, PLA, and Nylon work best on the front.

Getting Started with your 3Doodler Create+

Not sure where to begin with your new Create+ pen? You’ve come to the right place. Let’s get started with a few of the basics. By the end you’ll not only be Doodling, but Doodling well.

Basics

Plug in Your 3Doodler

Ensure you select your temperature to ABS/FLX for ABS and FLEXY filament or PLA for PLA or WOOD filament.

Press Fast/Slow & Insert a Strand

Press either button to put your pen in drive mode, then insert a strand of filament into the back of the pen. Push gently to ensure it engages with the gears and grips properly.

Ready, Set, Doodle

It may take a few seconds for your filament to extrude.

The Buttons

Fast / Slow Button

Single click either Fast or Slow button to start a continuous flow of filament. Click either button once to stop the continuous flow.

Reverse Feature

Double click either button to reverse the strand. The pen will pulse, which helps it reverse properly. If the strand is too short, carefully remove the nozzle and use the unblocking tool to push it out.

Feeding Strands

First try pushing your filament gently into the pen to ensure it engages with the gears. If the strand inside the pen is not long enough to grip or push by hand, use another filament strand or the unblocking tool to push it into the gear system.

Jammed Filament

Using the Included Screwdriver

Though uncommon, filament can become jammed (often due to unsnipped filament ends). While the maintenance cover should only be opened when absolutely necessary, following the instructions in the manual will keep you safe.

A Few Reminders

Follow the step-by-step user manual at all times.
Never force anything into place.
Ensure there is no filament inside the pen when replacing the maintenance cover.
Align tabs carefully when reattaching the cover.

Pressing on Surface

If filament won’t hold to paper or moves unpredictably, push the nozzle firmly onto the paper and allow filament to extrude for a couple of seconds, then lift the nozzle. The extra pressure helps the filament stick. We call this “anchoring.”

Incorrect

Filament bunches when not properly anchored to the surface.

Correct

Press the nozzle firmly onto the surface and hold briefly before lifting.

Nozzle Removal

Use the nozzle removal tool to gently unscrew the nozzle counter-clockwise while the pen is turned on and fully heated. Do not over-tighten the nozzle and keep the tool centered to avoid damaging the threads.

Step 1

Position the nozzle removal tool around the nozzle base.

Step 2

Gently unscrew counter-clockwise until the nozzle is free.

Tips

Keep Your Filament Clean

Use clippers or scissors to snip melted filament ends to avoid unnecessary jams.

Welding Filament

While extruding, touch the tip to both pieces to weld them together.
