Blow your Doodled balls up like a balloon.

Try holding the pen in place while extruding on a surface. This will create a small ball of plastic that will then begin to be "filled up" with new plastic. This technique helps create a really smooth outer surface to the plastic ball - the ball filling up and stretching evenly. If you do it just right, you can achieve a very smooth spherical shape.
