Getting Started

Not sure where to begin with your new 3Doodler Start+ pen? You’ve come to the right place! Let’s get started with a few of the basics. We’ll help get you Doodling like a pro in no time.

Basics

Micro USB Port

Plug in and recharge quickly and easily.

On / Off Switch

Slide this switch to turn it on. Allow 30 seconds for the pen to warm up. Out of power? Charge it up!

Insert A Strand

Click to start, then insert the strand until you feel it grip.

The Buttons

Click to Start, Click to Stop

One single click is all it takes to get your 3Doodler Start+ feeding. When you need to stop, one click is all it takes to stop the flow of plastic.

Reverse Feature

Double click to reverse the strand. If your strand is too short to reverse, give your pen a little shake upside down. If that still does not work and you want to switch colors, insert a new strand and feed the pen forward. Your new color will extrude soon!

When inserting a fresh strand of plastic into your 3Doodler Start+, it can take 10-15 seconds for it to extrude out of the nozzle. Thanks for your patience!

Jammed Plastic

First try gently pushing your plastic into the feed port to ensure it engages with the gears and gets gripped properly. If the strand of plastic inside the pen is not long enough for you to grip or push by hand, you can also use another plastic strand to gently push the first strand down and into the gear system.

The Three Colors

Red means the 3Doodler is warming up, green indicates it’s ready to Doodle, and orange signals the pen is charging.

Doodling Tips

Extruding Plastic

Our Eco-Plastic extrudes from the nozzle. It will harden in a few seconds, giving you time to shape your Doodles to perfection.

Anchoring

If you’re finding that the plastic won’t stick to paper, or that it goes off in random directions, don’t worry! All you have to do is push your pen’s nozzle firmly onto the paper and allow the plastic to extrude for a couple of seconds, then lift the nozzle into the air. The downward pressure will help your extruded plastic stick to the paper. We call this “anchoring.”

Snipping Ends

Keep your plastic strands clean. Use clippers or scissors to snip the melted plastic ends to avoid any unnecessary jams in your 3Doodler pen.

Welding Plastic

With your 3Doodler pen, you can weld plastic to plastic. While extruding, simply touch the tip of the 3Doodler Start+ pen to each of the pieces that you wish to join together.

Smooth It Out

After welding plastic together, you have about 5 seconds to mold it into your preferred shape before it hardens. Don’t worry, the plastic isn’t hot! Not only will this smooth your Doodle out, it will also give it a stronger structure.
